Thermo-Auricular Therapy could be described as a pleasant non-evasive treatment of the ears that can be used to treat a variety of conditions.

It is thought that ear candling was originally used by ancient civilisations for cleansing, purifying and healing the body on a spiritual level, and it wasn't until much later that the amazing effects of the candles on a physical level were discovered.

The practice of ear candling was introduced to the modern world via the Hopi Indians native to North America. Candles today are still made to the traditional formula originating from the Hopi Indians, being made from the natural ingredients of flax, beeswax, honey, sage, chamomile, St John's wort and beta-carotene.

The candles work on a chimney-like principle that equalises the pressure in the head and ears, making them suitable for most conditions. 

Secretion flow is gently stimulated and the vapour collects and removes impurities or deposits.

Ear candles are reported to be helpful with:

* Irritation in ears and sinuses
* Pressure regulation in cases of  sinusitis/rhinitis/glue 
   ear/colds/headaches/migraine

What does a typical treatment session entail?

You will be asked to lie on your side comfortably listening to relaxing music.  A candle will be gently placed in your auditory canal, removed, lit and then replaced.

The candle is then held in situ throughout the whole process.  It is kept steady ensuring that any ash is prevented from falling on you. 

As the candle burns down you will experience a pleasant crackling sound and a warm comfortable feeling. 

The candle is then removed, the ear gently massaged and you will be asked to turn onto your other side where the process is repeated.  A relaxing facial massage completes the treatment.

Reiki as a process is a system of channelling energy to someone in order to assist with healing.

A Reiki treatment involves the receiver lying comfortably, fully clothed, while the Reiki practitioner places his or her hands in various positions at different points of the body.

You can only become a practitioner and give Reiki if a Reiki Master has attuned you. Attunements could be described as transmissions of energy which opens the practitioner's inner healing channel, allowing more of life's energy to flow through them.

During attunements students also learn the different hand positions required for treatments. These hand positions correspond to the body's endocrine glandular system and to the seven main chakras of the body.  The endocrine system is responsible for regulating hormone balance and metabolism, and the endocrine glands are linked to the seven main chakras, also known as the body's energy centres.

Reiki works on the relationship between the glands and the chakras and delivers physical, mental and energetic healing to all areas of the body.  Reiki can therefore be used to treat almost anything.
